Goal for the rest of the year

Well today has been pretty blah... I went to my women's health class this morning and since then I've done pretty much nothing productive. I fiddled around on facebook for a while and did some homework for my medical terminology class. I also caught up on some of the shows on the dvr that I haven't watched yet.

Tonight I'll be going to the gym with steve. I've made it my goal for the rest of the year and for the cruise that I'm going to get into better shape and get healthier. My goal is to lose 15-20 pounds and hopefully have better eating habits as well. After all, I do plan on looking good in a bathing suit in the carribbean this december! This is also mainly to refine my healthy eating and exercise habits. I've found that the older I get the more stuck in my ways and habits so I figured now would be a great time to develop better more healthy habits.

After the gym is football time! I'm on a fantasy football league with my friends and I'm only 8 points away from winning this week's matchup- So if you're watching, we want Joseph Addai to have an amazing game! At least 80 yards or 1 touchdown and 20 yards :)

Still a college student and still broke

So let's see here...

- I'm going to school full-time right now taking some random medical and health courses. Hopefully they will be helpful for when I start the nursing program next fall. I'm taking Women's Health, Health and the Disease Process, Intermediate French and Medical Terminology. So far, everything's good. I had my first two exams today and I kicked some major exam bootayy.

- I'm still working at Medieval Times, however this is apparently the slow season so we're down to about only three shows a week, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I've been trying to find a second job for Mon-Thurs but so far no luck because I have to work around my school schedule.

- Steve and I are still doing well, he's started taking classes again at HCC as well and he seems to really like it. He to is trying to work his job out so he can take classes full time next semester. He hopes to get into the Culinary program, which I think is a great fit because he is a wonderful cook.

-I think that's about it! I spent today studying for my medical terminology test that I have tomorrow while watching grey's anatomy. Steve has class tonight so it looks like a pretty low-key evening.

Tata for now! :)

First of all: I am alive.

Now that we got that out of the way, I guess it's time for an update!

I have been enjoying the summer thus far, even with the crazy weather and everything. One minute it's a tornado and the next it's 75 and sunny without a cloud in the sky. You gotta love the Maryland weather system. I have finished my summer classes successfully, and am working right around 35-40 hours a week. Since my last post, I've quit Applebee's (affectionately referred to as 'Crapplebees') and I've started bartending at Medieval Times. It's a really fun job at a dinner and tournament place where I get to dress up as a bar wench everytime I go in for work. I've been there for about 2 months or so and so far, so good. I make 7.25/hour plus tips, which depending on the night can go either way. We open the bar about an hour and a half before every show and then during the show, we go into cocktail mode and go through the arena and take drink orders. It's taken some time to get used to working in the dark! Here's the website for the company if you want to check them out: www.medievaltimes.com . It's a really good company to work for, it has a lot of benefits for it's employees, full-time or part-time. Tuition reimbursement, gym membership reimbursement, picnics, parties, balls, and sorts of fun stuff.

Besides that, my girlfriends and I are planning a trip to the beach for my birthday. We will be leaving on Thursday August 20 and will be returning August 23.

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

So this is my last full week of classes at Maryland. I can't believe that I will be a college graduate in.... 16 days! yikes!

So this month is going to be crazy busy. I start classes at Towson University towards my nursing degree on the 26th of May, just 4 days after graduation. No rest for the weary!

I'm also moving out of my apartment in College Park back home to Columbia. The commute is way to outrageous from College Park to Towson, and this way I'll be able to save some money while I'm living at home. I should be almost fully moved home by the time everyone gets here later in May, at least all the large stuff will be taken care of.

My last day at Mulligan's is the 2oth. Its the end of an era! I've been there for 3.5 years, I don't know college without Mulligan's. It will be a weird experience not to work there any more.

That's about it, just a quick update. Hopefully I'll get around to updating again soon. Hope all is well with everyone.

time flies when you're in vegas

Vegas was a blast. It was so nice to get out of town with friends for a week and not have to worry about school or work or anything like that.

We flew out of Baltimore on Monday morning at the crack of dawn. Our flight was delayed because of mechanical issues (they stopped the plane and turned around during take-off) but after a few hours stuck on the plane they figured out what was wrong and it was fixed. Our plane stopped in Salt Lake City but traveled straight through to Las Vegas so there wasn't a connection that we had to worry about making, so that was good. We got to vegas around 2ish and checked in to our hotel which was in the middle of the strip, such a perfect location. Our first night we had dinner at Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville, and as a margarita-lover I was overwhelmed with the vast array of margarita choices they have. I settled on a pomegranate margarita which was sweet and very yummy. After dinner we did some walking and we decided to take a nap, but unfortunately the nap turned out to last the entire night. We were up at 5 am the next morning!

The next day was St. Patty's Day. After getting McDonalds for breakfast (they don't have steak egg and cheese bagels there, it was weird), we continued our tour through the casinos. Steve stopped in the Maserati/Ferrari dealership in the Wynn and got his picture taken in a brand new Ferrari. He loved it, I told him I wanted one for my birthday :) We went down to the MGM grand, the NY NY, and the Monte Carlo, dropping a few bucks in the slot machines as we went. At MGM grand, I put a dollar in a penny machine and won 50 bucks! We then went down to O'Shea's which is an irish casino/bar that was having a big block party to celebrate St. Patricks Day. We were here for pretty much the rest of the day.

Wednesday we were able to sleep in a little bit more. We went to a buffet at Ceasar's Palace for lunch. We had received a 20 dollar voucher when we signed up for a rewards card that worked for a number of casinos. Luckily, the buffet was 19.95, so it was essentially free! We then went to the Venetian where Chris and amanda did the gondola ride while the rest of us walked around and did some gambling. That night Steve, Amanda Janet and I went out to a club at the Hard Rock Hotel. It was a fancy dancy club that had 8 million lines to get into but somehow Janet managed that we could get in quickly. The club was alright, it was super loud with techno music (SO not my favorite) and drinks were easily 10-15 bucks a pop. We didn't stay very long, and we met up with the rest of the guys afterwards.

Thursday we all checked out of the hotel and took our bags to Janets sister's place, in north vegas. She offered her place to us that night so we could save some money. After doing the bag drop we went and saw the Bodies exhibit at the Luxor. It was my 2nd time through it, but I was no less amazed by the whole thing. I could easily spend 5 hours in there just reading. After that we went over to Mandalay Bay and went through the Shark Reef which was really cool. There were huge sea turtles, several types of sharks, fish, jelly fish, all sorts of aquarium creatures. That night we all ate at this burger place at Mandalay Bay and we all went to Jeanne's for the night.

On Friday, we stayed around north vegas and went to our last casino, in which we all walked away with at least 10 bucks. Overall, Steve and I broke pretty much even, which was great. We went to the airport, had dinner at California Pizza Kitchen and flew out around 10 pm. We got back into Baltimore around 8 am Saturday morning.

Since then I've gone back to work and done homework. Back to the boring life!! More pictures to come!

Any takers?

Anybody feel like writing a 30 page research paper on diabetes and physical activity? nobody? darn. I guess I'll just have to write it then.

One more quiz and paper until my spring break starts. The weather in vegas next week is supposed to be upper 70's and lower 80's the entire week we're there. I can't wait, especially since it's gone back to being cold here again.

I've started to the registration process at Towson. I'm trying to figure out what classes I need and all that jazz...

Other than that, that's it. It's been a boring week. Update later from vegas!

2 weeks until vegas :)

this weekend went by crazy-fast, and we even had an extra day! yesterday we got dumped with about 5 inches of snow, which cancelled classes for me, and school for rache and mom. we took advantage of the day off and went and saw 'confessions of a shopaholic' in theaters. the entire theater was empty, there was hardly anyone in the parking lot. the movie was cute, it's not going to win an oscar or anything, but it was a fun movie to see with my mom and rache.

friday night was a friend of steve and i's 25th birthday, so we went out to a little bar in baltimore called Boomers. it was a cute little bar that had a wii and some video arcade games. i played steve in this video arcade game where we were hunting moose. i totally kicked steve's butt and he spent 8 bucks trying to fix that. it was a fun night!

I worked all day saturday and sunday morning. sunday night we had dinner at my parents house with my parents, rache and steve. we had yummy costco pizza (my favorite). my dad and i went out to costco and bought some wood panels for my bedroom, he's going to pull up the carpet and replace it with the wood flooring. he's already done rachel's room and it looks really good. i'm excited to have a new floor when i move back home this summer :)

i think that's it- until next time!

Couple of things on my mind

Things that are flying through my mind right now:

1. Where did Lady Gaga come from? I need to get her album.

2. I should be working on homework rather than blogging, but then again procrastination is my specialty.

3. I'm making enchiladas for dinner tonight despite the fact that most of us won't be even eating dinner together tonight. Chris did pay for the ingredients so that's a plus.

4. Slumdog Millionaire was a great movie, although Steve did say that he thought it was over-rated. He slept through half the movie though so I'm not exactly sure what he's basing his opinion on. I liked it though, it was a very eye-opening experience. Plus the music was awesome- I kept wiggling around in my seat to the beat, haha.

5. I'm feeling super motivated and introspective right now. (Hence the blogging) I wish it would happen more often.

What a boring week!

It was a long and uneventful weekend. I spent most of it at work, and on top of everything I caught a bug that has been going around. It was mainly all head congestion but it was inconvenient to wait tables feeling like that. I think I'm finally getting over it now, so yay!

Tonight Steve and I are going to go see Slumdog Millionaire, which has gotten rave reviews. Seeing as it won the Oscar for best picture last night, we're going to take advantage of my night off to go see it. We'll probably grab some dinner or something before hand, it's a rare occasion that the two of us go out and do something by ourselves and not all of our friends. It should be a nice time.

Graduation is slowly creeping up... times and locations for the ceremony have been set. My college's graduation is Friday, May 22, 2009 at 9 am at Cole Field House, which is where our men's basketball team used to play before they built the bigger and better stadium, Comcast, which is where the main commencement ceremony is happening for the entire university. I won't be going to that one because I am one of 7-8,000 seniors graduating this may and the ceremony would go on forever. Plus, that's the morning of Rachel's graduation at the national cathedral, which I would rather go to.

Hmm what else is going on... oh, I won a free happy hour at a bar in Baltimore called 'Howl at the Moon'. It's a dueling piano bar that I was at a couple weeks ago for my friend Lauren's 22nd birthday (we're all turning 22 this year, how scary???). I entered a drawing when I got there and turns out I won it! It's a pretty cool package, my 1st 2 drinks are free and then they're half off until 8pm. There's also a free appetizer buffet until 730 which has nachos and hot dogs and stuff. I can have up to 100 guests which is really cool so my parents are going to invite some of their friends and steve's bringing his friends and of course, I invited all of my friends. It should be a good time.

I think that's about it... I can't think of anything else exciting that happened in the last week. We're doing the countdown for spring break... 3 weeks from today! :)

It's been a busy couple of months! (What else is new??)

School is in full swing for the last time... Yikes! I can't believe that in May I'll have a bachelor's degree! I feel like I haven't learned enough to have a degree yet... haha-

I'm working my butt off at both Applebees and Mulligan's, so when I'm not there, I'm either doing homework or sleeping!

On Sunday Steve and I cooked dinner for both of our families, 10 people total- It went well I think, everyone got along well and seemed to have a good time. It was the first time both of our families have gotten together since Steve and I have been dating, so we figured it was time for them to get to know each other!

Oh, and it's only 1 month till vegas! I can't be more excited to get out of this cold windy state and go to warm and sunny las vegas in march. we'll be gone for a week- march 16-20, our spring break. There's 6 of us total going- Janet, Brian, Chris and his girlfriend Amanda and then Steve and I.

I think that's it for right now, I have to get some homework done before class at 4, so I better go!

hello 2009

Well well well, would you look at that! Its 2009 already! It feels so weird for it to finally be 2009 because I'm graduating COLLEGE in 2009. I just applied for graduation a few days ago. How old does that make me feel? Yikes! I feel like it was just yesterday I graduated high school! Which now, Rachel is doing this year which also makes me feel old.

The last couple of months have been busy ones... December was all about finals and of course, our carribbean vacation over christmas! It was beautiful (even when it rained) and warm, which of course I loved because I hate the cold. It was so relaxing not to have to think or worry about school or work and just be. And of course the beaches helped too. I would love to go back for the rest of the cold season here and just work down in the carribbean. My dad wants to become part of the bahamian navy so maybe I'll go down there with him and work at one of the bars. Wouldn't that be the life?

Steve and I spent new years at the golf course where they had a private shin-dig for all of the employees and their guests. It was the first new year's I have spent without the family. I bartended with a couple of my friends from work and it was an all-around good time. Steve and I also had our christmas on New Year's because I was in Puerto Rico on Christmas. I got him season 1 on dvd of one of his favorite tv shows, the Sarah Connor Chronicles, the complete Batman Animated Series (he loves batman) and a pair of drum sticks that I had engraved with his bands name. My christmas gift from him was kind of a combined christmas/late birthday gift. He gave me pearl earrings, a pearl necklace, and then hes going to replace the stock radio in my car with a nicer 6-cd changer that will be up front rather than in the trunk, which I am uber-excited about.

Other than work, school, family and steve, nothing else is really going on- as you see I lead a very exciting life.. haha.

Hope everyone's new years went well and they're enjoying the start of 2009 so far!
